ChemTech Innovators R&D Center

The front of the Graft Copolymerization Unit has access to valves for purge, relief, pressurization, and depressurization,, pressure gauges, temperature control, booster pump control for feeding carbon dioxide and other gases, and a micro-metering pump for feeding initiators and other liquids into the reactor.
Reactor: 300 mL 316 Stainless Steel Agitated Bolt Closure, Autoclave Engineers
Reactor MAWP: 4900 psig at 650°F
Modes of Operation: Batch, semi-batch
Working Fluid: Supercritical fluids such as carbon dioxide, alkanes, alcohols and binary mixtures thereof. Excludes water and highly corrosive or oxidative environments
Pressure Development: Booster pump (pneumatically driven compressor) and micrometering pump
Control and Data Acquisition: Operator and solid state heater control.
Principal Applications: Supercritical graft-copolymerization, blending and compounding
Secondary Applications: Supercritical extraction and cleaning.

The back of the Graft Copolymerization Unit consists of steel doors (shown open) to allow for a completely ventilated enclosure. Shown in the above section of the enclosure is the reactor with agitator and drive along with an insulated heater. The bottom section is has the pneumatically driven compressor (booster pump) on the right hand side and a micro-metering pump on the left hand side.
