The suite of equipment shown above represents one of the few comprehensive assemblies of coal analytical equipment at an independent laboratory in the United States. Shown from left to right is the Leco Suflur Analyzer, Leco Ash Fusion Determinator, Leco Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen (CHN) Analyzer, Leco Chlorine Analyzer, and Fisher Coal Analyzer. This equipment can rapidly analyze many different solid materials and properly prepared liquids ranging from coal to cheese. Presently this equipment is used for analyzing the composition and sulfur content of coke that is rarely, but occasionally, produced in supercritical water reformation of hydrocarbons. Some of the current equipment in this page will need updating, since maintenance parts are often difficult to get. Analytical testing services are currently not available.

For fuel analysis and characterization along with the up-to-date regulatory standards, the following comprehensive review article was published in the Encyclopedia of Analytical Chemistry (EAC), Wiley & Sons.
